“It Just Can’t Be Coincidence” by U Today
Samson Mow, a well-known figure in the Bitcoin community and the CEO of JAN3 and Pixelmatic, has recently shared his perspective on the theory suggesting that Satoshi Nakamoto, the mysterious creator of Bitcoin, may have connections to China, specifically its intelligence services.
### Mow’s Presence in China During Bitcoin’s Creation
This week, prominent hedge fund manager Kyle Bass voiced his belief on social media that Satoshi Nakamoto—and by extension, Bitcoin—could be the brainchild of the Chinese intelligence agency. In a discussion with a Bitcoin supporter, Bass elaborated that BTC could have been created anonymously by “Satoshi” to undermine the U.S. economic dominance and the dollar’s global status.
China has had a turbulent relationship with cryptocurrency, having first banned ICOs in 2017, followed by an extensive ban on cryptocurrency trading and mining in 2021. Recently, the country has been testing its own central bank digital currency (CBDC), initially referred to as DCEP and now called the e-yuan.
Mow revealed on social media that he was in China in 2009, the same year Bitcoin was invented. He noted in a post that he led the largest Bitcoin exchange in the country at the time and later joined Blockstream, a prominent firm in the Bitcoin space. He jokingly claimed that he did not create Bitcoin or play a role in its inception.
Blockstream, founded by cryptographer Adam Back, was an organization with which Satoshi had previously engaged in discussions about Bitcoin, leading to Back being considered one of the potential candidates for Satoshi’s identity. Mow has embraced the nickname of being Back’s former colleague, which was humorously assigned to him by the creators of an upcoming documentary about Satoshi.
### Unpacking Satoshi’s Possible Links to China
In a follow-up post, Mow highlighted an intriguing detail that he believes may link Satoshi to China. He pointed out the spelling of Satoshi Nakamoto’s name in Chinese characters, noting that the first character aligns with the initial character in China’s name. He remarked, “It just can’t be coincidence,” suggesting that such similarities warrant further investigation.
The ongoing discussion about Satoshi’s identity and potential connections continues to be a topic of interest and speculation in the cryptocurrency community.
