US Senate’s Schumer to Host Musk, Zuckerberg, and Other Tech Leaders at AI Forum

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is set to host a gathering of prominent tech leaders, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, at an artificial intelligence forum on September 13.
The exclusive forum will also include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. According to Schumer’s office, the event aims to be bipartisan.
As interest in artificial intelligence surges, governments around the world are looking into strategies to mitigate the potential risks posed by this rapidly evolving technology. This increased focus comes in the wake of significant investments and public interest sparked by the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
In June, Schumer suggested a forum to establish a new framework for AI policy. He stated, "We need the best of the best sitting at the table: the top AI developers, executives, scientists, advocates, community leaders, workers, and national security experts – all together in one room, doing years of work in a matter of months."
Globally, regulators are racing to formulate guidelines for generative AI, capable of producing text and images that can often appear indistinguishable from human-made content. The transformative potential of AI has been compared to the arrival of the internet.
U.S. President Joe Biden emphasized the need to address the risks associated with artificial intelligence regarding national security and economic stability, indicating his intention to seek expert advice. Biden has also engaged in discussions about AI with world leaders, including British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, whose government is planning to host a global summit later this year focused on AI safety.
